The Kiwanis Club of Petoskey sponsors three Service Leadership Programs in Petoskey. These leadership programs are the equivalent of Kiwanis at each school level. We have 40 Builders Club members at Petoskey Middle School, over 50 members in the Key Club at Petoskey High School, and the newly launched Circle K Club at North Central Michigan College. These programs are very, very important to our Club to create opportunities for the children in our community to strengthen character, improve grades and develop as future leaders through service.
Petoskey Middle School Builder’s Club
Builders Club helps middle school students learn the value of service while developing leadership skills. Members are motivated and caring young people who work to change the world. And they value those who share their commitment.
The Builder’s Club of Petoskey Middle School is sponsored by Kiwanis Club of Petoskey. The Builder's Club meets every Monday during the school year. The past year has been a very successful year for the Petoskey Middle School Builder’s Club in contributing to their community. The Club has approximately 40 students participate in a weekly meeting to plan their service projects within our community. This past school year the Builder’s Club made flannel blankets during the holidays to donate to families in the community as gifts during the time of giving; they prepared and served lunch at the local First Presbyterian Church for local individuals in need of a good meal; they made cards for our service men and women and also the elderly to send during the holidays; during the holidays and special occasions the members travel to Bortz Health Facility to sing and play their instruments for the residents. Their most recent event was helping and organizing a local blood drive that netted approximately 57 pints of blood.
The Kiwanis Club of Petoskey is privileged to sponsor such an energetic group of students learning the satisfaction of serving others.
Petoskey High School Key Club
The Petoskey Key Club is the high school organization sponsored by The Kiwanis Club of Petoskey. Key Club assists Kiwanis in carrying out its mission to serve the children of the world. The Petoskey High School Key Club has grown as a Club with membership nearing 50 students! The student members of Key Club perform acts of service in their communities throughout the year such as fundraising for the homeless and at risk children in the Petoskey school districts, making fleece blankets for the foster children of Northern Michigan, organizing a school competition to raise money for the Little Traverse Humane Society, helping to stuff packages for the back pack program through Manna Food Project, Salvation Bell ringing, Big Brothers/Big Sisters Christmas shopping spree, organizing food drives and many other service projects. A unique feature of Key Club is that it is run by the Key Clubbers themselves; the adults are there to advise and counsel only. Students develop the programs, organize the projects, run the meetings and take the initiative to serve. They also learn leadership skills by holding elected leadership positions at the club, district and international levels.
The Kiwanis Club of Petoskey is privileged to sponsor this amazing group of high school students as they witness the satisfaction of serving others in our community.
